Case Studies
Located in the Silver Sands resort in Jeddah, the ‘sunken garden’ playground design gets its name by being descended below walkway level for ease of access. Due to the sloped landscape of the play area, equipment had to be adapted to work with this. All of the equipment used involves natural timber that blends in well with the theme of the houses and also prevents the equipment from getting too hot in the Saudi sun.
The play structure is laid out in such a way that allows children to manoeuvre between the timber equipment with ease and experience different motions whilst doing so. The focal point within the playground is a two-metre-tall slide that sits on the side of the embankment, allowing children to pick up movement before heading onto different equipment.
The centre of the playground comprises two popular pieces of equipment, a large Climbing Structure and a Cradle Nest Swing. The Climbing Structure can be navigated in various different way’s, testing children’s physical strength as well as coordination. The Cradle Nest Swing is always a popular attraction within playground designs, as it encourages social interaction and a chance for children to play together, either by sitting in the nest, pushing the swing or simply spectating.
Equipment for younger children includes Balance Blocks and Jumping Discs for them to test out their movement skills. There is also a Dendrophone within the playground which allows children to control the musical element, which can help with their sensory development.
