60 Years of Sizzle: Christie Tours the UK and Ireland to Celebrate a Cooking Legacy
Christie, the trusted Australian brand renowned for its durable, high-quality cooktops, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. To mark the milestone, a series of events will take place at key locations across the UK and Ireland. Already a familiar sight in parks, public spaces, beaches, and universities throughout Australia, Christie is gaining recognition across the region as progressive councils and organisations invest in safe, clean cooking facilities to enhance their community spaces.
Australia has long led the way in providing free-to-use electric cooktops, and over the last 60 years, Christie has become one of the largest suppliers of sanitary, high-volume cooking solutions. The introduction of these cooktops in the UK and Ireland reflects a cultural shift away from wasteful and hazardous disposable barbecues, towards more sustainable and durable methods of outdoor cooking.
To mark the anniversary, Paul Conradie, Sales Director for Christie, will tour a selection of new cooktop sites across the UK and Ireland. Working alongside UK suppliers Timberplay and AllUrban, Paul will be hosting a series of cooktop feasts, showcasing how locally sourced British and Irish produce can be prepared to perfection using Christie’s responsive cooktops.
In addition to hands-on demonstrations, Paul will deliver seminars and CPD sessions for councils and landscape architect firms, offering insight into how easily Christie Cooktops can enhance public spaces.
One council already seeing the benefits is Bournemouth, where 28 units have been installed along the town’s promenades and beaches for a number of years. Nickie Khorsandi, Destination Development Officer for BCP (formerly Bournemouth Council), commented on the popularity of the cooktops, noting how well they’ve been embraced by both locals and tourists.
“We expected the cook tops to be used by families, and indeed they are. Bournemouth is a popular holiday destination and I have anecdotal evidence that some families have forged links whilst sharing the cooktops, and have gone on to meet at the beach every day throughout their holidays. This alone shows how effective cooking and eating can be in promoting social cohesion. They have also been very popular with young people throughout the evening, the cooktops representing a great way for them to eat, saving money on takeaways and cooking up their own brought food.
I am proud that BCP Council has embraced these cooktops which serve as a sustainable and safe solution to meet the issues associated with disposable barbeques, and offer such far reaching benefits for residents and tourists alike. They are a fantastic addition to our coastline”
The cooktops are positioned at five locations across the seafront. The are designed to offer supreme energy efficiency in order to cook large quantities of food quickly and evenly. They also self-sterilise in between uses, so people can use them with confidence.
