Timberplay celebrates Pineapple Award win for Stockport’s ‘On The Way Play’

We’re thrilled to share that On The Way Play, a playful public realm initiative in Stockport, has won a Pineapple Award at this year’s Festival of Place.

Led by Civic and Social in collaboration with Stockport Council, the project reimagines the town centre through the lens of play – transforming everyday streets into more welcoming, inclusive, and joyful spaces. Timberplay was delighted to contribute to this bold vision, delivering robust, natural play elements that invite spontaneous moments of play and discovery throughout the high street.

From climbing structures to curious sculptural forms, the interventions aim to reconnect communities with their public spaces – creating opportunities for people of all ages to pause, interact and play.

Pauline Johnston of Civic and Social, who led the project, was recognised on the night for her visionary approach to play-led placemaking. The Pineapple Award is a fantastic celebration of what’s possible when local authorities, designers and play specialists come together to reshape our towns and cities.

Congratulations to everyone involved – and thank you for letting us play a part.
