As the sun sets on a December evening in Diriyah - Saudi Arabia, a new play space welcomed its first visitors.
In the Al-Khalidiyah neighbourhood of Al - Midian Park, the sounds of children playing filled the air as they explored a new place space which is open to families from across the neighbourhood. We're hugely proud to see this project come to fruition, bringing together families in a way that only a public play space can.
A Place For Community
Al – Midan Park reflects the spirit of Diriyah and its values based on harmony, pride in identity, and connection with nature, and we are delighted to have been part of creating this space which facilitates play, community cohesion and moments of joy in the park.
Al-Midan Park in Diriyah: A green space with an integrated architectural identity
"The Al-Midan Park covers an area of approximately 14 square meters, and its design was inspired by the urban code of Wadi Hanifa and its tributaries, within the framework of an initiative that seeks to unify the urban identity and apply the requirements of the code in public spaces, in order to achieve urban integration and harmony in the vicinity of the Diriyah Gate."
This playground was designed with Diriyah Gate Development Authority, and we worked closely with them to create a space which has a depth of play value for the families in the neighbourhood, as well as providing spaces for people to gather and spend time together. The design encorporates elements to engage all ages, facilitating moments of collaborative play, elements of risk and adventure all built in to this vibrant and innovative community space.
Supporting community initiatives and volunteer activities
"The park provides space for community initiatives and volunteer activities, and encourages active participation from various segments of society, through its extensive green spaces, recreational facilities for children, diverse sports fields, and walking and running paths, to form a vibrant community environment that promotes communication and interaction among residents."
